Beginnings
It all began with a dream in 1964.
The late K. Ramanathan, fondly known as Rama, was deeply rooted in the timber trade. One sultry afternoon by the Cooum River in Chennai, as he watched his cargo being unloaded, a thought struck him was he truly making a difference in people's lives? That moment sparked a realization, and he decided to transform his business to align with his dream:
to make a meaningful impact on peopleโs lives.
Since then, the Rama brand has been dedicated to turning that vision into reality, crafting high-quality products with durable stainless steel.
Rama is established as a brand
Rama became synonymous with quality in various stainless steel utensils. The household steel appliances store, K. Ramanathan & Co, takes pride of place at Luz Corner, Chennai, even today.
Under the able leadership of K Ramanathanโs son,K.R. Balachandran
Under the visionary leadership of K.R. Balachandran, son of K. Ramanathan, Rama pioneered the iconic stainless steel water filter design. Today, its distinct banded middle represents quality and aesthetic excellence in water filters.
By 1985
Rama had become Indiaโs No. 1 brand for gravity water filters.
Rama intensified its business
Dedicating itself to manufacturing stainless steel water filters and water filter housings. A major British brand becomes a customer, using Ramaโs stainless steel housing design.
In 2002
A now-major US gravity water filter brand becomes it customer, using Ramaโs stainless steel design. In 2004, Rama acquires technology from the UK to manufacture diatomaceous earth filters forย Ramaโs high quality Spirit filters.
Carbon Blocks
Rama acquired the know-how in manufacturing Carbon Blocks, used to make filters derived entirely from coconut-shell-based activated carbon.
Biggest Source-Water
Rama continues to draw inspiration from its biggest source - water. To innovate, pushing the frontiers of design and technology. But always keeping things simple and pure. Like water.
